CAROLAYNE HENRY
ASSOCIATE COMMISSIONER, COMPLIANCE/SWA
Guiding the Mountain West Conference in the area of compliance and serving as the Conference's Senior Woman Administrator is Carolayne Henry. Her responsibilities at the MWC include serving as the staff liaison to various MWC committees including the MWC Student Athlete Advisory Committee.
Henry also works with conference senior woman administrators and faculty athletic representatives, as well as handling all legislative issues and coordination of the many MWC committee meetings. She was on the NCAA Academics/Eligibility Compliance Cabinet for four years (1999-2003). During this time she spent one year on the Division I Subcommittee on Financial Aid, and three years on the Division I Subcommittee for Student-Athlete Reinstatement. Henry spent six years on the reinstatement committee with three of those as chair. She also spent two years on the Division I Women's Basketball Issues Committee (2001-2003). Currently, Henry is the MWC representative to the Division I Management Council. In this capacity she handles NCAA Management Council issues affecting the conference.
For nearly six years, Henry was a representative for NCAA membership services and coordinator for education. She interpreted and drafted legislation for the NCAA membership and acted as the liaison to several NCAA committees. In addition to her legislative duties at the NCAA, Henry prepared educational material, formulated a Division II conference seminar plan, organized videoconference presentations on NCAA rules for high schools and colleges, and coordinated NCAA regional rules seminars.
Prior to joining the NCAA staff, Henry practiced law in the private sector in the Pittsburgh area for three years. She holds court admission to the United States District Court, Western District of Pennsylvania and the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. She was a practicing attorney from 1992-93 and a judicial law clerk from 1990-92.
A member of the University of Michigan women's basketball team from 1982-86, Henry graduated with her B.A. in political science from Michigan in 1986. She went on to study at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and earned a Juris Doctorate in 1990.
A Battle Creek, Mich., native, Henry currently resides in the Gleneagle area of Colorado Springs. She is a past member of the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators (NACWAA) Board of Directors (2000-2004), a 2005 recipient of the NACWAA Nell Jackson Award, a 2001 NACWAA Institute for Athletics Executives attendee, a 1998 NACWAA/HERS Institute for Administrative Advancement attendee, a past member (1999-2003) of the Colorado Springs Girl Scouts Wagon Wheel Council Board of Directors and a member of the Black Coaches Association.
