MWC Volleyball Player of the Week Utah's Whitney Webb earns first career honor.
Oct. 16, 2006 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah outside hitter Whitney Webb earned Mountain West Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, marking her first career weekly honor. Webb, a 6-1 junior from Gilbert, Ariz., led the first-place and 12th-ranked Utes to a 2-0 record last week, including a five-game win over conference foe Wyoming. In Utah's sweep of non-conference opponent Utah Valley State, Webb had a season-high .611 hitting percentage, collecting 12 kills in 18 attempts with only one error. She nearly tallied her third career double-double as she also turned in a career-high nine total blocks to go along with seven digs and four assists. Against the Cowgirls, Webb fell one block short of a triple-double, totaling a career-best 26 digs and matching her career-high in total blocks (nine), while falling one short of a career-high in kills, notching 16. For the week, Webb averaged a team-high 3.50 kills, 4.12 digs, 2.25 blocks and 1.00 assists per game, while hitting .404 (25-4-50).
