MWC Volleyball Player of the Week BYU's Chelsea garners second weekly honor of the season.
Oct. 9, 2006 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU outside hitter Chelsea Goodman earned Mountain West Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, marking her second award of the season and fourth of her career. Goodman, a 5-11 junior from Mesa, Ariz., led BYU to a 3-0 record last week, including conference wins over TCU and New Mexico. She tallied three double-doubles on the week, leading the Cougars in kills in all three contests and in digs twice. Against Utah Valley State, Goodman had 19 kills, 10 digs and four total blocks in BYU's 3-0 win. In a five-game win over TCU, she posted a career-high 27 kills to go along with 10 digs, three blocks and one assist. Her 27 kills were also the most by a Cougar since the 2003 season. With BYU trailing 10-7 in game five vs. the Horned Frogs, Goodman recorded three kils and one block as the Cougars notched eight straight points for the come-from-behind win. Against New Mexico, she collected 23 kills and 16 digs as the Cougars defeated the Lobos in four games. For the week, Goodman averaged 5.75 kills, 3.00 digs, 0.92 blocks and 0.17 assists per game, while hitting .345 (69-19-145).
