MWC Volleyball Co-Players of the Week

Colorado State's Ashley Fornstrom and Utah's Sydney Anderson share honor.

Oct. 2, 2006

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado State setter Ashley Fornstrom and Utah setter Sydney Anderson earned Mountain West Conference Volleyball Co-Players of the Week. This is the second weekly award of Fornstrom's career, while Anderson garnered her first career weekly honor.

Fornstrom, a 5-9 sophomore from Cheyenne, Wyo., led the Rams to a four-game victory over Wyoming on Sunday, collecting the conference's first triple-double of the 2006 season and Colorado State's first since the 2001. She tallied 53 assists, a career-best tying 14 digs and a career-high 11 blocks (10 assisted) vs. the Cowgirls, becoming the first setter in MWC history to record a triple-double with one of the categories being blocks. Fornstrom also broke the CSU single-match record for blocks by a setter. She also collected four kills on seven attempts (.571 hitting efficiency) vs. Wyoming. Fornstrom averaged 13.25 assists per game vs. the Cowgirls, helping the Rams to a .260 team hitting percentage.

Anderson, a Salt Lake City, Utah, native, led the 18th-ranked Utes to a 3-1 upset victory over No. 16 BYU in Provo, Utah, last Friday, allowing Utah to take sole possession of first place in the conference race. She had a career-high 57 assists and 13 digs for her third straight double-double (fourth of her career), while also amassing a career-high six kills on eight attempts for a .750 hitting percentage. Anderson was responsible for seeing four Ute hitters tallying double-digit kills for a team hitting percentage of .315 against one of the best defensive squads in the conference. Against the Cougars, Anderson averaged 14.25 assists, 3.25 digs and 1.50 kills per game.
