MWC Volleyball Player Of The Week

BYU's Chelsea Goodman earns fifth career weekly honor.

Aug. 27, 2007

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU outside hitter Chelsea Goodman earned Mountain West Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, marking her fifth career award.

Goodman, a 5-11 senior from Mesa, Ariz., led the 17th-ranked Cougars to a 2-0 record and the tournament title, while being named Tournament MVP at the Hawkeye Challenge in Iowa City, Iowa last weekend. She tallied a match-high 14 kills, while hitting at a .423 clip, and notching five digs and four assists in a sweep over Marquette to open the tournament. Against tournament host Iowa, Goodman collected match-bests in kills (22) and digs (21) for her first double-double of the season. After BYU lost the first two games to the Hawkeyes, Goodman came back with nine kills in a game three win, as the Cougars won the final three contests on the way to a five-game victory. She now has 35 career double-doubles, which currently ranks third all-time in MWC history.

For the week, Goodman averaged 4.50 kills, 3.25 digs, 0.62 blocks and 0.12 assists per game. She also accounted for 5.06 points per game in eight total games.
