Top-Seeded Colorado State Sweeps No. 8 San Diego State

Three Rams register double-digits in kills

The top-seeded and 20th ranked Colorado State Rams breezed past the eighth-seeded San Diego State Aztecs in 3-0 sweeping fashion in Thursday night's final quarterfinal match at the 2007 Mountain West Conference Volleyball Championship. The Rams won by game scores of 30-22, 30-20, 30-19 and improve to 22-6 on the season. SDSU's season ends with a final overall record of 13-16. CSU advances to play in Friday's second semifinal match against the third-seeded BYU Cougars at 6:00 pm PST.

The Rams out-hit the Aztecs .254 to .075. CSU never hit worse than .156 (game two), while knocking down a .280 hitting efficiency in game one and a .333 in the third frame. SDSU hit .098 in the first game, but dropped to .022 in the second before breaking .100 in the third at .108.

CSU had three players register double-digits in kills, while SDSU didn't have one attacker reach the mark. The Rams were led by 15 kills from Mekana Barnes, the 2007 MWC Player of the Year. Tonya Mokelki and Tessa Nelson knocked down 12 kills, apiece to round out the trio.

Ashley Fornstrom assisted on 49 of the Rams' 54 registered helpers.

Defensively, Jaime Strauss led all players with 15 digs and was closely followed by Katelin Batten's 13.

Hannah Evans and Lauren Salisbury were the top two hitters for SDSU, as they recorded nine and eight kills, respectively. Salisbury was the only Aztec to hit above the .100 mark with a .160 efficiency.

Leah Lathrop and Kristen Castillo split the setting duties for SDSU. Lathrop topped out at 14, while Castillo had 13.

Aime Cordeiro led the Aztecs in digs with 13, while Hannah Evans tallied 11
