BYU Advances To Title Match Of MWC Women's Tennis Championships Cougars defeat Rebels, 4-2, in semifinals

No. 2 seed BYU posted a 4-2 victory over No. 3 seed UNLV in the Mountain West Conference Tennis Championship women's semifinals today at Barnes Tennis Center. The Cougars, winners of back-to-back MWC Tournament crowns, advanced the title match for the fourth straight year and the sixth time in seven years.
The Cougars swept the doubles competition to notch the first point of the match. BYU's No. 3 tandem of Olga Boulytcheva and Lauren Jones posted an 8-1 victory over Cindy Treber and Mery Constanti to remain a perfect 12-0 at the No. 3 doubles this season. BYU sophomore Anastasia Sourkova notched her 21st singles victory this season after defeating Sharon Marin (6-2, 6-2) at the No. 3 position. Sofia Holden defeated Treber at No. 4 singles and Dolly Chang defeated Claire Smith (0-6, 6-2, 6-4) to account for the Cougars' team scoring.
MWC Player of the Year and 12th-ranked Elena Gantcheva (UNLV) defeated Boulytcheva (BYU) at No. 1 singles, bringing her season record to 10-0 vs. MWC opponents and extending her win streak to 12 straight matches.
