Jodi Norton Leads BYU Past UTA

Feb. 11, 2006

Stats

HONOLULU, Hawai`i - Jodi Norton jacked two home runs leading BYU to a 5-2 victory over Texas-Arlington at the Paradise Classic on Saturday, Feb. 11.

Summer Tobias again pitched tough for BYU, earning her third win of the season. The win improves the Cougars' record to 4-1 on the season and is the second consecutive victory for BYU.

The Cougars never trailed in the game and tallied 10 hits in the contest. The left-handed tandem of Krystle Chamberlain and Jennifer Whiteley went a combined 5-for-6 from the plate with two runs and one RBI.

After leaving two runners on base in the first inning, BYU scored its first run in the second on Norton's lead-off homer over the left field fence. The Cougars threatened to extend the lead but were unable to take advantage of a bases-loaded, one-out situation.

In the fourth, BYU struck again when Chamberlain laid down a bunt single, stole second and came around to score on a Whiteley RBI single.

An inning later Norton struck again. Her second round-tripper of the game was a towering two-run shot to left-center. The home run was Norton's third of the five game tournament. She also knocked in seven runs and had a slugging percentage of 1.250 in the five games.

The Cougars added their fifth run on a RBI single by Tracee Hoch in the fifth inning.

Tobias had another strong outing, pitching five innings while only giving up one run on two hits. She struck out five batters in the victory.

BYU will next play in a week when it travels to Las Vegas to compete in the Louisville Slugger Tournament beginning Thursday.
