MWC Sends Two Teams to NCAA Golf Championships TCU and UNLV earn berths to 2008 NCAA National Championships Field
May 10, 2008 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - TCU and UNLV will advance to the 2008 NCAA Women's Golf National Championships, set to be played May 20-23 at the UNM Championship Course in Albuquerque, N.M. New Mexico senior Alexandra Phelps also qualified as an individual. The 25th NCAA Championships is a four-day, 72-hole tournament hosted by the University of New Mexico. The top eight teams and two individuals from each of three regionals advanced to the National Championships. The Horned Frogs finished fourth in the Central Region at the University of Texas Golf Club course. TCU will be making its first back-to-back appearances at the NCAA Championship since 1999 and 2000. This marks the Horned Frogs fifth trip in 14 seasons under Head Coach Angie Ravaioli-Larkin. UNLV finished third in the West Region on the Lincoln Hills Golf Club course. UNLV advances as a team for the first time since 2006, led by the MWC Freshman of the Year Therese Koelbaek's first-place finish (6-under-par 210). New Mexico's Phelps qualified as an individual after finishing tied for fourth place with a 1-over-par 217. She will be making her second appearance in the National Championship after advancing with New Mexico as a team last year. The field for the NCAA Championships is made up of 24 teams with 18 of them ranked in the top-25 according to Golfweek. The field consists of USC (1), UCLA (2), Duke (3), Florida (4), Arizona State (5), Purdue (6), Oklahoma State (7), Georgia (8), Arkansas (9), Auburn (10), Denver (11), Alabama (12), Arizona (13), Wake Forest (14), Texas A&M (19), Virginia (21), Texas (23), LSU (24), South Carolina (32), Tulsa (34), Furman (35), TCU (36), UNLV (45) and UC Davis. -mwc-
