2007-08 MWC Women's Golf All-Conference Team Announced New Mexico's Jodi Ewart and TCU's Valentine Derrey named Co-Players of the Year
April 19, 2008 Albuquerque, N.M. - The Mountain West Conference announced its all-conference team and individual awards at the conclusion of its women's golf championship at the UNM Championship Course in Albuquerque, N.M., on Saturday, April 19. New Mexico sophomore Jodi Ewart and TCU sophomore Valentine Derrey were named the Co-Players of the Year, while UNLV's Therese Koelbaek earned Freshman of the Year honors. New Mexico head coach Jill Trujillo was selected the Coach of the Year. Ewart claimed her second-consecutive individual title at the 2008 MWC Women's Golf Championship, leading the Lobos to a first-place finish. She is the first MWC golfer to earn back-to-back titles. Ewart was second in the MWC regular season with a 74.39 stroke average. Derrey finished tied for 13th at the 2008 MWC Women's Golf Championship, carding a low-round one-over-par 74. For the season, she held a 74.74 stroke average and collected two top-five finishes during the season, including a third-place finish at the Lady Paladin Invitational. She was named the MWC Golfer of the Month in September, October and February. Koelbaek led the MWC in stroke average (73.96) this season. The freshman earned her first victory at the USF/Richmond Country Club Invitational. She shot a 2-over-par 215 to take the win, finishing four strokes better than the second-place finisher. She also had top-five finishes at the UNLV Spring Invite and the Indiana Invitational. New Mexico head coach Jill Trujillo earned MWC Coach of the Year honors for the first time in her career. This year, she led the Lobos to two tournament titles, taking first at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational and the 2008 MWC Championship.
