Frogs advance to NCAA National Championship Derrey's 210 sets a TCU tournament record
May 10, 2008
AUSTIN, Texas -- Behind Valentine Derrey's TCU tournament record 210, the Horned Frog women's golf team finished fourth at the NCAA Central Regional in Austin to earn its second-straight trip to the NCAA National Championship. TCU will be making its first back-to-back appearances at the NCAA National Championship since 1999-2000. It's the Frogs' fifth trip in 14 seasons under head coach Angie Ravaioli-Larkin. A sophomore from Paris, France, Derrey finished third after carding a 73 Saturday. Her 6-under-par 210 (67-70-73) bettered the previous Horned Frog 54-hole mark of 211 by Catherine Matranga at the 2006 Jeannine McHaney Invitational. Derrey closed play two strokes behind Purdue's Maria Hernandez and UCLA's Maria Jose Uribe who tied for medalist honors at 208. Allyson Ferguson, one of three freshmen in TCU's five-player lineup, also posted a top-10 finish as she tied for eighth with a 1-over 217. Ferguson shot a final-round 71, equaling a career-best score she initially set after Thursday's opening 18 holes. Prior to the NCAA Central Regional, Ferguson's best round at TCU had been a 74. Ferguson and Derrey both had four birdies Saturday to tie for the Frogs' top mark on the day. TCU carded a final round 11-over-par 299 to finish with an 884. Top seed and third-ranked UCLA placed first at 861, 10 strokes ahead of No. 6 Purdue. Ranked 30th, TCU entered the Central Regional as the 11th seed out of 21 teams. The top eight advance to Albuquerque May 20-23 for the NCAA National Championshp. Top 12 Team Scores TCU Scores
