UNLV Remains On Top After Second Round Of 2006 MWC Women's Golf Championship

ST. GEORGE, Utah - UNLV remains atop the leader board at the 2006 Mountain West Conference Women's Golf Championship at Entrada at Snow Canyon in St. George, Utah, after the second round of play. The Rebels carded a second-day 303 and have a two-day total of 594 (+18). New Mexico has moved into second place, firing a 295 for round two bringing them to 598 (+22) for the championship.

BYU falls to third after carding a second round 304, moving them to 604 (+28) for the tournament. TCU is currently in fourth and has a 36-hole team score of 606. San Diego State is fifth (612), followed by Colorado State sixth (613) and Wyoming seventh (641).

Individually, TCU's Catherine Matranga played her way into first place shooting a second round one-under 71 for a 36-hole total of even par 144. New Mexico's Mikaela Backstedt sits one stroke back of Matranga at +1 after shooting a one-over on Friday. Py Bengtsson of New Mexico shot even par to move into third place with a two-day total four-over par 148.
