St. George, Utah - BYU leads the seven-team field after the first day of action at the 2007 Mountain West Conference Women's Golf Championship at Entrada at Snow Canyon in St. George, Utah. The Cougars carded a team total of 294 (+10) for round one and hold a six-shot advantage over TCU, who currently sits second at 300 (+16). New Mexico is third with a team score of 314 (+30), followed by Colorado State (315), UNLV fifth (317), Wyoming sixth (321) and San Diego State seventh (324). Individually, there is a two-way tie for first. BYU's Rachel Newren and TCU's Catherine Matranga are locked at one-over-par 72. BYU's Juli Erekson sits one stroke behind the leaders in third place with a two-over-par 73. The second round begins Friday at 9:30 a.m. (MT).
