SDSU Women's Golf Jumps Three Spots To 11th After Second Round In Hawaii Booth improves her score by 10 strokes

Behind the strength of senior Anna Booth's (Coffs Harbour, Australia) second-round 76, the San Diego State women's golf team moved up three spots into a tie for 11th place through 36 holes Tuesday at the 23rd Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in Kaneohe, Hawaii. The Aztecs tied for the sixth-best round of the day with a 320 to jump from 14th into a tie for 11th with Middle Tennessee State at 63-over 639 at the par-72, 5,907-yard Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course. Booth improved her day one score by a whopping 10 strokes with a 4-over 76 to jump from 84th place to 52nd place on the individual leaderboard with a 162. Booth's score tied as the 12th-best of the day in the field of 91 golfers, which includes three squads ranked in the top 10 in the country. Aztec freshman Stephanie Arcala (Oceanside, Calif.) is the team's top golfer overall, carding a second-round 81 to tie for 41st place at 16-over 160. Classmate Samantha Roberts (Carlsbad, Calif.) is one stroke behind her with a 161, including an 82 on Tuesday. Redshirt sophomore Petra Cole (San Diego, Calif.), who along with Arcala and Roberts each had a 79 in the first 18 holes, is tied with Booth for 52nd place after firing an 83. Junior Maki Kamimura (West Covina, Calif.) was the second Aztec to improve on her day-one effort, posting an 81 to tie for 59th place at 19-over 163. Oklahoma State, which is ranked 15th nationally, overcame a five-stroke deficit heading into the day to tie No. 6 Arizona for the team lead at 11-over 587. Wildcat Alison Walshe maintained her position atop the individual leaderboard at 4-under 140, but Arizona State's Anna Nordqvist is just two strokes behind following a second-round 69. Wednesday's third and final round will begin at 7:30 a.m. HT with a shotgun start.
