Lobos Beat Northwestern, 67-38, To Win WSF Challenge Kimble Named Tournament MVP

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- Senior Brandi Kimble earned Most Valuable Player honors while leading the University of New Mexico to the Women's Sports Foundation Challenge championship. The Lobos beat Northwestern, 67-38, to finish 3-0 on the weekend. Kimble got things off on the right foot for the Lobos, hitting a three-pointer 31 seconds into the game for the first basket. UNM jumped out to a 10-3 lead and continued to pull away from the Wildcats. The Lobos went into the intermission with a 37-16 lead. Lobo head coach Don Flanagan was able to get his bench some valuable playing time in the second half. At the 8:02 mark, all four freshmen - Kelsey Ansley, Amanda Best, Porche Torrance, and Jessica Kielpinski - were on the floor with sophomore Christian Shelter. During the five minute stretch, the rookies built the New Mexico lead to 30, 57-27. Kimble finished the game with a team-high 17 points and seven rebounds. For the tournament, the Stevenson Ranch, Calif., native averaged 16.3 points and 11.7 rebounds per game. Eileen Weissmann recorded her second double-digit game with 11 points against Northwestern. Joining Kimble on the all-tournament team were senior Dionne Marsh and sophomore Amy Beggin.
