TCU'S Cosmin Cotet, New Mexico's Lucy Scott Named Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week

April 16, 2008

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - TCU's Cosmin Cotet and New Mexico's Lucy Scott have been named the Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week, respectively. This marks Cotet's fourth weekly honor of the season and the first career award for Scott.

Cotet battled back from an injury to finish with a combined mark of 4-2 while helping TCU capture a share of the MWC regular-season title last week with wins over No. 54 San Diego State and No. 51 New Mexico. After being forced to retire from his singles match in the Horned Frogs' 4-3 loss to Utah, the 35th-ranked senior registered straight-set victories at the No. 1 position over SDSU's Matan Shitrit (6-3, 6-3) and UNM's 41st-ranked Max Jones (6-1, 6-4). At No. 2 doubles, the Iasi, Romania, native teamed up with Adrian Simon to collect victories over SDSU's Tim Schulz van Endert/Andre Feliz (8-3) and UNM's Chris Parkes/Johnny Parkes (8-6). Cotet is 18-6 in singles action this season with seven wins over ranked opponents and also has an 18-6 mark in doubles play.

Scott notched a combined 5-1 mark last week as 55th-ranked New Mexico posted a 2-1 mark against three ranked opponents. In the Lobos' 4-3 win over No. 54 Utah, Scott fueled a four-point UNM rally with a 7-6, 6-4 victory over Erin Monson at the No. 3 singles position. The senior from Wrexham, Wales, also picked up a key win in the Lobos' 4-3 upset of No. 38 BYU as her No. 3 triumph over Chie Hayasaka (7-5, 6-1) knotted the match at 3-3. Scott and teammate Ola Abou-Zekry swept their three No. 1 doubles matches, defeating Utah's Elizabeth Ferris/Emily Kwok (8-4) and BYU's Anastasia Surkova/Jennifer Miccoli (8-2) before staging a 9-7(7-2) upset of TCU's 12-ranked duo of Macall Harkins/ Anna Sydorska. Scott currently has an 18-16 record in singles play this season.
