TCU'S Cosmin Cotet and Kewa Nichols Sweep Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - TCU's Cosmin Cotet and Kewa Nichols have been named the Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week, respectively. This marks the fourth career honor for Cotet and the second for Nichols.

Cotet, a native of Iasi, Romania, posted an overall record of 6-0 last weekend as the 31st-ranked Horned Frogs won their first three MWC contests of the season. The senior, ranked No. 29 nationally, cruised past his opponents at the top singles position in the first two matches, defeating Brett Rodgers of Air Force by a score of 6-1, 6-2 and Jonathan Sanchez of BYU by a score of 6-1, 6-0. Against UNLV, Cotet downed No. 69 Elliot Wronski in straight sets, marking the sixth ranked opponent Cotet has defeated this season. In doubles play, the 45th-ranked duo of Cotet and Kriegler Brink posted three dominating victories, recording wins of 8-2 and 8-1 in their first two matches and ending the weekend with an 8-0 shutout of UNLV's Wronski and David Campbell. Cotet is currently 16-5 this season at the top singles position and also holds a doubles mark of 16-5 at the top spot.

Nichols dropped just eight sets while going a combined 6-0 last week to help lead the 22nd-ranked Horned Frogs to a 13-4 overall record and a 3-0 start in Mountain West action. The senior from Austin, Texas, began the weekend with a 6-0, 6-1 defeat of Colorado State's Anette Pohjalainen before cruising past Air Force's Samantha Sarkis by a score of 6-1, 6-0 and closing out singles play with a 6-0, 6-2 triumph over Wyoming's Michelle Brown. In doubles action, Nichols posted victories of 8-2, 8-2 and 8-0 at the No. 2 slot. Nichols has now won six consecutive singles matches this season, all of which came in straight sets.
