Four MWC Men's Golf Teams Earn NCAA Regional Bids

Colorado State, San Diego State, TCU and UNLV to compete in postseason play

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Mountain West Conference will have four teams represented in the 2008 NCAA Men's Golf Regional, announced Monday by the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Committee. Colorado State earned the automatic berth after capturing the conference championship on April 26 in Tucson, Ariz. The Rams will be joined by San Diego State, TCU and UNLV in the regional format.

Three regional tournaments, encompassing the current nine sub-regions, will be conducted May 15-17. A total of 27 teams and six individuals not on selected teams were assigned to each regional site. Ten teams and two individuals not on advancing teams will move on from each regional to the championship finals.

Colorado State earned a No. 24 seed in the East Regional, which will be played at Council Fire Golf Club in Chattanooga, Tenn. Having earned the MWC's automatic berth, the Rams currently sit 82nd in the nation according to the Golfstat rankings. CSU received an invitation to the postseason for the eighth time in nine years and is looking for their first championships appearance since 1999.

San Diego State ranks 37th in the nation according to the Golfstat ratings and is a No. 11 seed in the West Regional at the Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash. The Aztecs are making their second consecutive NCAA Regional appearance.

TCU earned a No. 16 seed in the Central Regional to be played at Scarlet Golf Course in Columbus, Ohio. The Frogs, who are currently 57th in the country according to GolfStat, placed 25th in the 2007 Central Regional and look to return to the championships for the first time since 2004.

UNLV is the highest-rated MWC men's golf team at No. 15 in the latest Golfstat rankings. The Rebels will join San Diego State at the West Regional, having earned a No. 6 seed to mark the Rebels' 20th straight appearance in postseason play.

The NCAA Championships will be conducted May 28-31 at the on the Kampen Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Indiana. Purdue University is the host institution for this year's championships.
