May 5, 2008

The TCU men's golf program advanced to its 19th consecutive NCAA Central Regional Championship appearance as the Horned Frogs will be heading to Columbus, Ohio, on May 15th as the 16th-seed.

"We're excited about the opportunity to be competing in our 19th consecutive NCAA Regional," said head men's golf coach Bill Montigel. "This is a great accomplishment for our team, and there aren't a lot of teams in the country that can say that they've been to 19 straight regionals so it's a tremendous honor. We're excited to head to Columbus, and it's a really great field so we're going to do our best to earn a spot at the NCAA National Championships."

The University of Alabama - who has been ranked number-one in the country all season - will be the top-ranked seed in the NCAA Central Regional while Oklahoma State, Georgia Tech, Florida and Tennessee round out the top-five seeds. In total - 27 teams advanced to the NCAA Central Regional Championships at the host-school The Ohio State University.

The Frogs - who are coming off of a second-place finish at the Mountain West Conference Championships - have been listed in the top-50 in the Golfweek and GolfStat rankings throughout the 2007-08 campaign. The Purple and White are one of four teams from the Mountain West Conference to advance to the NCAA Regional Championships as Colorado State will be headed to the East Regional while UNLV and San Diego State will be part of the West Regional.

This will be the first time since the 1993 campaign and the third time overall that the Frogs have traveled to the Scarlet Course at The Ohio State University for the NCAA Central Regional Championships. The last time that the Frogs traveled to Columbus, Ohio, came at the 2002 NCAA National Championships where the Purple and White tied for 11th overall.

The 2008 NCAA Central Regional Championships will begin on Thursday (May. 15) and the top-10 team will advance to the NCAA National Championships in West Lafayette, Ind., where the event will be hosted by Purdue University on May 28th.
