Mountain West Conference Announces Men's Golfer of the Month San Diego State's Aaron Goldberg earns March honor
April 3, 2008 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State senior Aaron Goldberg has been selected the Mountain West Conference Men's Golfer of the Month for March, marking the second straight honor. Goldberg collected three top-six finishes in March and helped San Diego State to a pair of tournament titles and one second-place showing. In his first tournament of the month, Goldberg carded a 5-under par 211 (67-72-72) at Fresno State Lexus Classic, March 10-11. He tied for the sixth place out of 103 golfers on the par-72, 6,729 yard Fort Washington Country Club Course and matched his lowest score of the spring with the opening-round 67. His efforts helped SDSU successfully defended its team championship, winning the same event in consecutive years for just the second time since 2000. At the Barona Collegiate Cup, March 17-18, Goldberg once again tied for sixth after firing a 7-under 209 (70-72-67) on the par-72, 7,393 yard Barona Creek Course. After completing the first 36 holes in a tie for ninth, Goldberg moved up three spots in the 60-golfer field with a final-round 67. SDSU finished second in the team standings. In his final tournament of the month, Goldberg placed third at the Oregon Duck Invitational after posting an even-par 216 (71-70-75) on the par-72, 7,039 yard Emerald Valley Course. Goldberg was one of just three golfers in the field of 64 to complete the tournament at or below par. He also tied for second with 11 birdies and helped SDSU claim its third team title of the season, and second in a three-week span. Goldberg leads the Aztecs and ranks second in the MWC with a 70.93 stroke average. In six spring tournaments, Goldberg has compiled a 70.24 scoring average, while posting two runner-up finishes.
This marks Goldberg's fifth career golfer of the month award.
