Mountain West Conference Announces Men's Golfer of the Month San Diego State's Aaron Goldberg earns the January/February honor
Feb. 29, 2008 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State senior Aaron Goldberg has been selected the Mountain West Conference Men's Golfer of the Month for January/February. Goldberg opened the spring season with three strong performances. He started with a tie for second at the PING Arizona Intercollegiate after carding an 8-under 205 (67-71-67) on the 6,793-yard Arizona National Golf Course in Tucson. In a field of 86 participants, Goldberg was one of just 16 golfers to complete the tournament under par and notched his highest finish of the 2007-08 campaign. In his second tournament of the spring, Goldberg posted his second straight runner-up finish at the 36-hole SDSU Intercollegiate Classic held on the 7,033-yard San Diego Country Club course in Chula Vista, Calif. The course layout proved difficult as all 27 golfers finished over par. Goldberg was one of only five competitors to complete a round at or below par, firing an even-72 during the second round and finishing just one stroke shy of the individual title with a 3-over 147 (75-72). At the John Burns Intercollegiate in Wahiawa, Hawaii, Goldberg shot a career-best 7-under par 65 over the final 18 holes en route to a 10-under 206 (69-72-65) for the event. He finished tied for seventh on the 6,917-yard Leilehua course and led San Diego State to a fourth-place finish in the team standings. For the season, Goldberg leads the team and ranks second in the Mountain West with a 71.05 stroke average. In three spring tournaments to date, Goldberg has compiled a 69.75 stroke average, while posting two runner-up finishes.
This marks Goldberg's fourth career golfer of the month award.
