Colorado State Captures 2008 Mountain West Conference Men's Golf Championship

April 26, 2008

Tucson, Ariz. - Colorado State captured its first Mountain West Conference Men's Golf Championship today with a four-stroke win over TCU at the 2008 MWC Men's Golf Championship played at the OMNI Tucson National Golf Course. The Rams entered the final round in fourth place and eight strokes back of team leaders BYU and TCU, who were tied at 4-under par. Colorado State fired the day's best round of 6-under-par 278 on the 7,136-yard, par 71 Catalina Course to claim the title with a 54-hole total of two-under 850. Colorado State's previous best at the MWC Championship was a third place finish in both 2000 and 2001.

TCU posted its highest finish at the MWC Golf Championship after placing second with a team score of 2-over 854. Last year's Conference champion BYU placed third with a total of 5-over 857. No. 16 UNLV was fourth at 859, followed by Utah (866), New Mexico (868), San Diego State (871), Wyoming (888) and Air Force (890).

UNLV sophomore Eddie Olson maintained his one-stroke lead after the second-round, firing a 1-under-par 70 today, to claim the individual title with a 54-hole total of 4-under 209. Olson won the crown by three strokes over BYU's Robbie Fillmore, Colorado State's Riley Arp and San Diego State's Aaron Goldberg, whom all tied for second place with identical scores of 1-under-par 212. Olson's three-stroke margin of victory tied the MWC Championship record set in both 2002 and 2004. He's also the third UNLV individual to win medalist honors at the MWC Men's Championship. The Rebels Ryan Moore claimed top honors in 2004 and Michael Kirk won the crown in 2000.
