Mountain West Conference Names Football Players of the Week

New Mexico QB Porterie, Air Force LB Fowler and New Mexico K Sullivan honored.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Donovan Porterie (New Mexico), Drew Fowler (Air Force) and John Sullivan (New Mexico) are Mountain West Conference Players of the Week for games through Sept. 8. Porterie earns the Offensive Player of the Week honor, while Fowler garners the Defensive Player award and Sullivan receives Special Teams recognition. Porterie and Fowler both collect their second career player of the week honor, while Sullivan is a first time honoree.

OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

DONOVAN PORTERIE, NEW MEXICO

Sophomore, Quarterback, Port Arthur, Texas/Memorial

Donovan Porterie completed 17-of-24 passes for 342 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in New Mexico's 44-34 victory over in-state rival New Mexico State. Porterie completed 13 of his last 14 attempts in the game and was 5-of-5 for 149 yards and a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Porterie led the Lobos to scores on their final six possessions, including three touchdowns and three field goals.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

DREW FOWLER, AIR FORCE

Senior, Linebacker, Clayton, N.C./Clayton

Drew Fowler recorded a game-high 14 tackles, including six solo stops, in Air Force's 20-12 victory at Utah. Ten of his tackles came in the second half and the 14 total were the second-most of his career. Fowler and teammate Hunter Altman combined to stop Utah running back Darryl Poston on a fourth-and-goal with just over minute to play in the game to preserve the Falcon victory.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

JOHN SULLIVAN, NEW MEXICO

Senior, Place Kicker, Tehachapi, Calif./Tehachapi

John Sullivan, who is playing with a torn ACL in his left (non-kicking) leg, accounted for 14 points in New Mexico's win over New Mexico State. He connected on all three of his field goal tries from 30, 38 and 21 yards and converted all five PATs.
