Aztecs Fall to USD in Battle for City Bragging Rights, 90-80

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Ross DeRogatis hit five 3-pointers in the second half and finished with 20 points as the San Diego Toreros rallied to beat San Diego State 90-80 on Wednesday night.

San Diego (3-2) broke a three-game losing streak in the crosstown rivalry. San Diego State (3-2) had won its previous two games by more than 25 points each. Brandon Heath scored 24 points for the Aztecs and Marcus Slaughter had 23.

San Diego made 7 of 10 3-point shots in the second half and was 11-for-21 overall.

The Toreros trailed 38-35 at halftime but went ahead for good on a 3-pointer by DeRogatis with 16:30 left that made it 42-41.

Leading 59-56 with 9:20 left, the Toreros went on a 12-3 run, capped by Corey Belser's 3-pointer with 5:48 left for a 71-59 lead.

San Diego State, the preseason pick to win the Mountain West Conference, never got closer than eight points the rest of the way.

Belser had his third straight double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Nick Lewis scored 16 and Nir Cohen had 12.

John Sharper scored 12 for SDSU while Mohamed Camara had his first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
