Rams Fall To Baylor In Double Overtime, 87-82

Smith puts up 25 points and 19 boards for CSU.

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - Henry Dugat scored 27 points as Baylor beat Colorado State 87-82 in double overtime on Tuesday in the opening game of the NIT Season Tip-Off at the Spokane Arena.

Two free-throws by Tim Bush with 41 seconds left provided the winning points for Baylor (2-0).

Jason Smith scored 25 points and grabbed 19 rebounds for Colorado State (1-1).

In the second overtime, Dugat's basket with 3 minutes left lifted Baylor to a 79-78 lead. After a Colorado State turnover, Aaron Bruce's runner made it 81-78 Baylor with 2:27 left. Smith's layup cut Baylor's lead to 81-80.

Stuart Creason's short jumper gave the Rams an 82-81 lead with 59 seconds left. Bush was fouled and made both free-throws to lift Baylor to an 83-82 lead with 41 seconds left. Colorado State turned the ball over and was forced to foul with 16 seconds remaining. Duget made two free-throws with 16 seconds left for an 85-82 Baylor. Cory Lewis' 3-point shot fell short for Colorado State.

In the first overtime, Dugat's runner with 45 seconds left gave Baylor a 75-73 lead. But Smith's layup with 18 seconds left tied the score. Curtis Jerrells missed an open 3-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into a second overtime.

Near the end of regulation time, free-throws by Tim Denson and Smith built a 66-61 CSU lead. Dugat's 3-pointer with 1:52 left and his short jumper with 45 seconds left tied the score at 66-66. Both teams missed shots as regulation ended.

Baylor went on an early 14-1 run to take a 23-7 lead in the first-half, and led 29-28 at halftime.

 

 

Baylor will play the winner of the Rice-Gonzaga game on Wednesday. Colorado State will face the loser.
