COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV junior Xavier Scruggs and Air Force freshman left-hander Brad Pingel have been named Mountain West Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. This is the first career weekly honor for both recipients.

Scruggs, a San Diego, Calif., native, hit .667 (14-for-21) with three home runs, two doubles, one triple, 10 RBI and nine runs scored in five games played, leading the Rebels to a 3-2 record over that span. He started the week going 5-for-9, with three RBI and two runs scored in a two-game series vs. Washington State. In game one, Scruggs went 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI and one run scored, and followed with a 3-for-4 game two performance. In the first game of a three-game series vs. Maine, Scruggs went 1-for-3 with two runs scored in a 9-7 UNLV win. In game two vs. the Black Bears, he had his biggest game of the series, going 5-for-5 with three homers, seven RBI and five runs scored in a 21-5 Rebel victory. In the series finale, Scruggs went 3-for-4 with a double in UNLV's 3-2 win.

In three relief appearances on the week, Pingel went 1-0 and led the Air Force pitching staff with a 1.59 ERA in 5.2 innings pitched. In a 5-3, 10 inning win over Northern Colorado, the St. Louis, Mo., native, came on in the seventh inning striking out back-to-back batters with the bases loaded and getting out of the inning unscathed as the Falcons rallied for their first win of the season. In the first game of a two-game series vs. Mississippi State, Pingel hurled 1.0 innings, giving up one hit and no runs in a 3-1 loss. In game two, Pingel picked up the win, marking the first time ever Air Force defeated a Southeastern Conference opponent.
