LAS VEGAS - Third-seeded San Diego State (23-35) set new tournament records for most runs in a game and in an inning as the Aztecs rolled over seventh-seed Air Force (10-38) 26-1 on the second day of play in the 2006 Mountain West Conference Baseball Tournament from Earl E. Wilson Stadium. With the win, SDSU moves on to face UNLV in the elimination bracket today at 4 pm, while the Falcons were eliminated from the tournament.

Six Aztecs finished with multi-hit games, highlighted by Quintin Berry, who finished 3-for-5 with six runs and five RBI, while Paul Smyth was 4-for-5 with three runs and five RBI. Berry scored the first run of the game, as he was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the first, stole second, and scored on a groundout RBI for a 1-0 SDSU lead. The Aztecs took control of the game in the third inning, thanks to a two-run homer from Smyth. SDSU added four more runs in the inning to stake out to a 7-0 lead.

Air Force scored its lone run of the game in the next inning, a solo home run from Karl Bolt. The Falcons were limited to just three hits for the rest of the morning.

Berry again started the fireworks for SDSU in the sixth, beginning the inning with a double, one of 14 Aztecs to reach base safely in the inning. They would finish the inning scoring a tournament record 12 runs on 10 hits, putting the game out of reach with a 19-1 lead. SDSU scored seven more runs over the seventh and eighth innings to close out the victory.

SDSU's Brett Douglas (3-2) earned the win as he went the distance, allowing one run on six hits over nine innings. He struck out nine while throwing just one walk. Joining Berry and Smyth with multi-hit games were Brock Ungricht, Tim O'Brien, Mike Willeford, and Lance Zawadzki.

For the Falcons, Bolt finished 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI, while Jason Griggs was 2-for-4 at the plate. Josh Meents (0-6) took the loss for Air Force, allowing seven runs, six earned, off five hits over 2.2 innings before being lifted in the third. Meents was one of four Air Force pitchers used during the game, all four game up at least four runs each.
