BYU Wins Mountain West Conference Men's And Women's Cross Country Championships BYU junior Josh Rohatinsky takes home top honors on the men's side, while sophomore Heidi Magill claims the women's crown.
Oct. 29, 2005 FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The BYU Cougars captured the men's and women's team titles at the 2005 Mountain West Conference Cross Country Championships Saturday at Collindale Golf Course in Fort Collins, Colo. The sixth-ranked Cougar men finished with 27 points, while runner-up Colorado State finished with a point total of 62. The No. 8 BYU women's squad finished with 23 points and were followed by New Mexico, with 74 points.
For the men, BYU brought home its sixth conference title in seven years as members of the MWC, placing all five scoring runners in the top 10. Junior Josh Rohatinsky paced the field with a time of 24:12.90 to claim the men's individual title. His time was the second fastest clocking in MWC Championship history. Rohatinsky was followed by Air Force senior Nick Wilson (24:28.90) and TCU senior Kip Kangogo (24:35.30), who finished second and third, respectively. BYU's Chandler Goodwin (24:38.70) and Dustin Bybee (24:39.90) rounded out the top five. Air Force claimed third place with 73 points, followed by Wyoming in fourth (108 points), New Mexico in fifth (119) and TCU sixth (140).
New Mexico junior Timmie Murphy (21:06.70) and San Diego State sophomore Lital Azulay (21:14.20) rounded out the top five for the women's race, finishing third and fifth, respectively. Colorado State finished third with 75 points, followed by Wyoming in fourth (121 points), San Diego State in fifth (134), Air Force sixth (138) and Utah seventh (189). TCU (192) and UNLV (274) finished eighth and ninth, respectively.
