BYU Wins Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The BYU Cougars brought home the men's and women's titles at the 2006 Mountain West Conference Cross Country Championships Saturday at Rose Park Golf Course in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Cougar women finished with 35 points, while runner-up Colorado State finished with a point total of 44. The BYU men's squad finished with 27 points and were followed by Air Force, with 76 points.

For the women, BYU captured its eighth consecutive conference title as a member of the MWC, placing all five scoring runners in the top-15. Junior Kassi Andersen paced the field with a time of 20:52.7 to claim the women's individual title. She was followed by TCU senior Calandra Stewart (21:10.9) in second, Colorado State senior Nicole Feest (21:14.1) in third. New Mexico senior Timmie Murphy (21:17.4, fourth) and BYU sophomore Amber Duffin (21:19.0, fifth) rounded out the top-five.

New Mexico claimed third-place with 94 points, followed by Wyoming in fourth (113 points), TCU in fifth (121 points) and Utah in sixth (156). Air Force (159), San Diego State (203) and UNLV (266) finished seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively.

On the men's side, BYU brought home its seventh conference title in eight years as a member of the MWC, placing all five scoring runners in the top-10. Senior Josh Rohatinsky won his second straight individual crown in a time of 23:56.8. Wyoming sophomore Mark Korir (second, 24:06.1), Cougar sophomore Kyle Perry (third, 24:36.0), and New Mexico juniors Juan Ortega (fourth, 24:42.3) and Jeremy Johnson (fifth, 24:48.5) rounded out the top-five men finishers.

 

 

Colorado State claimed third-place with 88 points, followed by New Mexico in fourth (89 points), Wyoming fifth (93 points) and TCU sixth (153 points).
