ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Katie Lloyd became the first student-athlete in conference history to win back-to-back Mountain West Conference pentathlon titles, defeating Utah's Amanda Feight 4,047-3,891 on the first day of the 2007 MWC Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Albuquerque Convention Center. Lloyd's point total is a CSU school record, facility record, and the second-best mark in MWC championship and all-time history. San Diego State sophomore Kristin Olafsdottir finished third with a score 3,810.

Colorado State has an early lead in the women's team standings with 19 points, followed by Utah (8), San Diego State (7), TCU (3) and BYU (2). Lloyd never trailed after tying teammate Sonni Russell for first in the second event of the day, the high jump, with a leap of 5-07.25 (1.71m). She also was victorious in both the shot put (39'-7.75" [12.08m]) and long jump (19'-8.75" [6.01m]). Lloyd broke her own CSU record in the event as each of the top four finishers surpassed the NCAA provisional qualifying standard in the pentathlon.

Emily Pearson (3,722) and Tony Cure (3,469) of Colorado State finished fourth and fifth, respectively, while TCU's Meaghan Peoples was sixth (3,447). BYU's JennaBree Brown (7th - 3,275) and San Diego State's Kristin Karhio (8th - 3,260) rounded out the scoring.

Colorado State senior Kevin Johnson leads the men's heptathlon competition after four events with a score of 3,167. The top four competitors are separated by just 138 points.
