Heptathlon and Decathlon Open Day One of the MWC Outdoor Track Championships Air Force's Walsh leads decathlon and Colorado State's Pearson leads heptathlon.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Air Force senior Brian Walsh leads the men's decathlon with 3,863 points, while Colorado State junior Emily Pearson leads the women's heptathlon with 3,293 points after the first day of the 2007 Mountain West Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Wednesday at San Diego State's Sports Deck.
Walsh won the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.84 for 897 points and the 400-meter dash (49.52) for 837 points to finish the day with the lead, while Pearson outscored the women's competition in the 100 meter hurdles with 968 points (14.07), the high jump (855 points - 1.70m) and the 200-meter dash (842 points - 25.49).
Wyoming senior Phillip Thomas is second in the decathlon with 3,715 points, followed by Wyoming senior Olav Roe in third place with 3,673 points, BYU freshman Lance Walker in fourth with 3,391 points and Cougar senior Kevin Keys rounding out the top-five in the men's field with 3,342 points.
In the women's competition, New Mexico sophomore Sandy Fortner is second with 3,131 points, while Utah senior Amanda Feigt is third with 3,086 points. San Diego State sophomore Kristin Olafsdottir is fourth with 3,049 points and BYU junior Sarah Lacey is fifth with 2,918 points.
Day two events begin Thursday, May 10, at Noon PT with the men's decathlon 110 meter hurdles, while the women's heptathlon long jump begins at 12:30 p.m. PT. After the conclusion of the multi-events tomorrow, the rest of the field will open competition on Friday.
