MWC Swimmers and Divers of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU senior Jorge Azevedo and TCU junior R.J. Hesselberg earned Mountain West Conference Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week honors, respectively, while BYU's Rachel Grant and Tawni Jones were named MWC Women's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively.

Azevedo helped lead BYU to an upset conference victory over nationally-ranked UNLV last Friday. Individually, he won the 100 backstroke (50.48) and the 100 butterfly (48.85). Azevedo also swam on the first-place 200 medley relay (1:30.72) and 400 freestyle (3:02.92) squads.

Hesselberg won the 3-meter diving event, while placing second in the 1-meter dive in TCU's league dual match vs. Wyoming. In the 3- meter dive, he notched a score of 316.65, 18 points higher than the next competitor. Hesselberg recorded a score of 270.53 in the 1-meter event to finish second.

Grant won three individual events in the Cougars' dual match win over UNLV. In the 200 butterfly, she set a new school record at altitude as well as a Richards Building pool record with a time of 2:01.86. Her time in the 200 fly is also the second-fastest mark in MWC history. In the 100 butterfly she touched the wall in a time of 56.83 and swam a time of 2:05.68 in the 200 individual medley. Her times in all three events are currently the best in the Conference this season.

Jones won the 1-meter diving and platform diving events, while finishing second in the 3-meter dive at last weekend's combined UNLV dual and BYU Diving Invitational. On the 1-meter board she scored 265.25, while from the platform she scored 200.18. In the 3-meter, she collected 260.10 points for second place.
