MWC Men's and Women's Swimmers and Divers of the Week
Oct. 31, 2007 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah freshman Garrett Beaman and TCU junior R.J. Hesselberg earned Mountain West Conference Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week honors, while BYU freshman Rachel Grant and New Mexico senior Carrie Quinn were named MWC Women's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively. Beaman won three events and finished second in another in Utah's dual meet vs. Denver last week. He won the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.46 and followed with a victory in the 100 free (46.13) and a second-place finish in the 100 backstroke (51.00). Beaman was also a part of the Utes' 400-freestyle relay team that tied for the win with a time of 3:06.05. Hesselberg, a Saskatoon, Canada, native, won the 1-meter diving event at the Horned Frogs' quad dual with Centenary, Incarnate Word and Texas-Permian Basin last Friday in Fort Worth. He scored 276.95 points to take top honors in the event. Grant, from Walnut, Calif., won four individual events at last weekend's Phill Hansel Duals in Houston, Texas. In the 200 individual medley, she finished with a time of 2:06.97, while winning the 400 individual medley in 4:23.20. She also swept the butterfly events, touching the end line in the 100 fly in 57.05 and bringing home the 200 fly individual title in 2:03.04. All four of her times are the best in the conference this season. Quinn placed first in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events against conference-foes Air Force and Colorado State last week. She compiled a score of 264.35 in the 1-meter dive, while scoring 279.55 in the 3-meter event.
