MWC Men's and Women's Swimmers and Divers of the Week
Jan. 30, 2008 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Wyoming's Sam King and Mark Murdock were named Mountain West Conference Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, while TCU freshman Maria Alvarez and UNLV freshman Lara Sreibers were named women's co-swimmers of the week and BYU sophomore Ava Jackman earned women's diver of the week. King won three individual events and contributed to a relay victory as Wyoming split conference meets with Utah (W, 174-121) and BYU (L, 99-144) last weekend in Laramie, Wyo. Against Utah, he won the 200 backstroke (1:53.86) and 200 individual medley (1:55.56), while leading off the first-place 400 medley relay team that finished in a time of 3:27.18. King also swam to a second-place time of 52.94 in the 100 backstroke vs. the Utes. Against 23rd-ranked BYU, King won the 400 individual medley, touching the wall in 4:05.72. Murdock, from Flower Mound, Texas, won all four diving events vs. Utah and BYU last weekend. Against Utah he set personal-best marks in the 1-meter (320.55) and the 3-meter (338.10) boards. Both point totals rank fifth all-time in Wyoming diving history and are also NCAA Zone Qualifications. Murdocks 1-meter mark is the best in the Conference this season, while his 3-meter point total ranks second in the league. Against BYU, he won the 1-meter with a score of 299.40 and the 3-meter with a point sum of 294.23. Alvarez won two individual events in helping TCU defeat New Mexico (137.5-105.5) last week, breaking Horned Frog season-best times in both events in the process. She posted wins in the 200-freestyle (1:55.00) and 500-freestyle (5:06.01) to help TCU to victory. Sreibers won both distance events in UNLV's non-conference dual meet against UC Santa Barbara. She took the 1000 freestyle in a time of 10:16.41, the fifth best time in the Conference this season, and also won the 500 freestyle in 4:58.57, the eighth fastest time in the league on the season. Jackman helped first-place BYU to conference dual-meet wins over Air Force (155-82) and Wyoming (155-88) with her performance on the 1- and
3-meter diving boards last weekend. She placed first on both board events vs. Wyoming, totaling 271.65 points in the 1-meter dive and a personal-best score of 299.85 in the 3-meter (second best in the MWC this season). Jackman followed with second-place finishes in both diving affairs vs. Air Force, scoring 275.17 in the 1-meter and 279.31 in the 3-meter.
