MWC Announces Men's and Women's Swimmers and Divers of the Week

Jan. 23, 2008

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV senior Jonas Andersson and Wyoming freshman Mark Murdock were named Mountain West Conference Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, while UNLV senior Marina Sandback and Wyoming senior Brittany Wainwright were named women's swimmer and diver of the week, respectively.

Andersson, an Enskede, Sweden, native, swept all four breaststroke events, while helping the Rebel 200 medley relay team to a first and second-place finish in UNLV's conference wins over Wyoming (171-128) and Air Force (176-123) last weekend. Against Wyoming, Andersson swam a time of 56.14 in the 100 breaststroke, which ties for the fastest clocking in the Conference this season. He also won the 200 breaststroke in 2:03.73 and helped the 200 medley relay squad to a first-place finish (1:31.52). In the Air Force meet, he won the 100 breast in 56.47 and the 200 breast in 2:03.52 and was a part of the second-place 200 medley relay team that finished in 1:34.48.

Murdock, from Flower Mound, Texas, won the 1-meter and 3-meter events in Wyoming's dual meet vs. UNLV, setting personal best marks in both events. In the 1-meter, he scored 299.99, while notching a point total of 296.48 in the 3-meter dive. His score on the 1-meter is the best in the MWC this season, while his point total in the 3-meter currently ranks fourth in the league.

Sandback, a native of Vasteras, Sweden, won four individual events and also swam on four first-place relay teams vs. Wyoming and Air Force. In a dual meet win over Wyoming, she was first in both the 100 butterfly (56.45) and the 100 freestyle (51.14). Sandback then swam on the victorious 200 medley (1:44.38) and 400-freestyle (3:29.07) relay teams. She followed with wins in the 50 freestyle (23.57) and 100 butterfly (56.34) against Air Force. Sandback also helped the 200 medley (1:45.41) and 400 free (3:29.03) relay teams to wins vs. the Falcons.

Wainwright, an Evanston, Wyo., product, swept both diving events as Wyoming compiled a 1-1 record in a Conference meet vs. UNLV and New Mexico last weekend. She opened the meet with a first-place score of 270.50 in the 1-meter dive, while collecting a season-best score of 273.00 in the 3-meter event.
