COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Mountain West Conference member institutions have yet another reason to compete against each other this month as the MWC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) gears up for its second annual Rebuilding Lives Blood Drive Challenge. The challenge was initiated in 2006 by the league's SAAC in an effort to engage member institutions in a community service project focused on the importance of donating blood.
The Conference's member institutions have each set aside one day in January or February to collect campus-wide blood donations with the help of local blood service centers. Institutions are promoting the event on their campuses and encouraging student groups, faculty, staff and alumni to participate in an effort to be named the league winner, which be determined by the amount of pints of blood collected. The most successful school will receive an award presented by MWC Commissioner, Craig Thompson, to the winning school's Athletics Director during the 2007 MWC Men's and Women's Basketball Championships at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nev., March 6-10.
